'Checking In', featuring Gladstone Hotel Room, Leslie Jen, September 2005

Included in this month’s Canadian Architect, Leslie Jen writes about the renovation to the Gladstone Hotel and its individually-designed rooms, re-imagined with a multitude of themes by local artists and architects. Heather Dubbeldam and Tania Ursomarzo designed Two Views of Room 411, “conceptually the most rigorous and architectural of the rooms.” As Jen notes, their design is “revealing a continuous horizontal band of lighting and a wood framing structure that defines a room within a room.” Dubbeldam’s mark on this historic hotel reflects the spirit of community-focused and detail-oriented design.
